The tab row held the session's tabs, the transcript beside them, the folder picker, jump and the page's settings, side by side, and a newcomer could not tell what each acts on. The reader chose option A from three mockups: each control in the bar of what it acts on.

What had to change to make that hold

  • Folded, the session list's head shows the settings alone, not the robot, so they stay in reach. This reverses "Folded, it is all the head shows" in alerts.md; the picture shows it.
  • The folder picker's slot moves as the find box does (homePlaces, sendHome): into the list column, and home to #placehome before a box that holds it is emptied, or it goes with its listeners. It is last in the column's DOM and first by order, so split's parts keep their places.
  • Folded, the list column keeps the picker's height, hidden. Without it, the fold button moved up by it and was no longer under the pointer (files view filter #492, test_a_fold_button_stays_where_it_was_pressed went red).
  • The transcript button is built with each bar (putChatButton), not moved: a bar is rebuilt, and a moved button went with it. It stands before the quick toggles, so md / txt stays last on a document's line.
  • The transcript button has an icon of its own (sideTranscript): beside the diff's two-column toggle, the old icon looked like the same button twice.

Tests

  • New: test_the_folder_picker_heads_the_list_and_the_transcript_button_ends_the_bar. Changed to the new places: the robot and tab-row tests in test_page_theme.py, the two right-edge tests (now against the tab row's own end, TABS_END), and the two settings-menu tests that clicked where the menu now opens.
  • Each of 5 breaks turned a test red (tests/perturb.py): the picker left at home, the picker not sent home before a clear, the button after the toggles, no button on the file line, no folded height.
  • The tests with no browser: 1146 passed. The whole suite, as tests/browser.py changed: 1784 passed. The four changed page test files at -n 12: 291 passed, three times. page_coverage.py --check --names homePlaces,sendHome,putChatButton: passed.

The reader saw the before and after pictures and said yes.

Folded, the column keeps its height, hidden, so the fold button stays under the pointer (#492). - The transcript beside is a layout of the Files and Review tabs: a button in their bars (putChatButton), built with each bar, before the buttons that change how the tab is drawn, so md / txt stays last.
